What a wonderful book to read to a child before bedtime! It reminded me of laying in the grass looking up at the stars and dreaming about things afar. The Cree legend elopes with the pursuit of your dreams, as rabbit and crane take you there.

Retells Cree legend of how Rabbit wanted to see the earth from the moon and finally gets Crane to fly him there. Crane's legs are stretched and his head is bloodied from Rabbit's hands.

People would wonder as why, me, as a girl of 15 would be reading a book about War. I love reading the war stories, and watching the war films as much as i love reading and watching horse things. Although I have a planned career in the Olympics with my horse, i've thought in the past few years, that if i weren't intersted in horses, i would go into the Air Force. My brother is obsessed with World War II, and I must admit it grew on me! Douglas Bader is an amazing man, with great courage and determination. Paul Brickhill wrote Reach for the Sky really well. Some of my favourite parts are (from the 1954 book)

"242 Squadron were changing their aeroplanes, becoming the second squadron to get Hurricane Mark II's, which were faster, had more power, and the new and better VHF raido. Now in the routine of unexiting readiness, Bader sometimes swashbuckled about, jabbing his thumb nosalgically on an imaginary gun button, with an accompanying 'rasberry' to signify the rattling guns" I just found that hilarious.

Another of my favourites is:
"Once in mid- Channel on the way out a new boy in 145 called: 'Hallo, Red Leader. Yellow Two calling. I can't turn my oxygen on.' A brooding silence followed, The voice plaintivley again: 'Hallo, Red Leader. Can you hear me? I can't turn on my oxygen."
Then Turner's Canadian voice, ferociously sarcastic: "What the hell d'you want me to do? Get out and turn it on for you? Go home!' No one made that mistake again."
You have to feel sorry for the boy, but Turner was funny!

Douglas Bader was someone who will never give up. He'll just keep on trying, and trying, and trying, until he gets it. He's a man of great wisdom, and should be greatly remembered through out history.

Douglas Bader was in the peacetime RAF but lost both legs in a crash. After a miserable few years on civvie street, the war came along and he volunteered. Not only was he accepted, with two prosthetic legs and several years older than most of "the Few", but the RAF returned him to fighter-plane duty. He became a leading ace until he was shot down, and then he became such a pain to the Germans that they had to take his legs away from him to stop him from escaping.

You may remember Brickhill as the author of The Great Escape. This is another spellbinding yarn. Note however that it is more of an inspirational story than a serious biography. In the days when youngsters were more literate than they are today, it would have been called a "boy's book."

My son-in-law (who is English) gave an earlier version of this book to me for a Christmas present. He had to search all the used-book websites to find it. I'm delighted (and so is he) that it's available again. Bluejacket Books are distributed in the U.S. by Naval Institute Press, so I'm sure that this is an excellent production and not a cheap reprint.

Give it to the "boy" on your list, whether he's eight or eighty.

This volume is definitely a must have for those who desire to read the Bible in Hebrew but have not yet been able to read the Tanach completely for themselves. All Hebrew students are expected to memorize all words used 50 times or more in the Old Testament (those who are not willing to do rote memorization shouldn't bother trying to learn any language). These words are provided with their meanings in an appendix. One can begin their memorization right away.

All other words (those occuring less than 50 times) are given, printed every time they occur, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, in the order of the Old Testament books, chapters, and verses (sort of like reading the Bible vertically rather than horizontally). The verbs are given in their particular stem form for each occurrence. In addition, the number of occurrences of the words for the particular book and for the entire OT are given; for verbs, the number occurrences of the particular stem currently found in a verse are given for the whole OT.

What I think is especially good about this volume is that it forces the student to learn much of the Hebrew vocabulary; and, even where words are given each time they occur (for those used under 50 times in the OT), the student is required to have studied enough grammar to recognize the verb stem forms. In other words, the book gives the verb spelling for the stem form used but does not tell the student the name of the stem; the student needs to have learned how to recognize the various verb stems. One might think that such a format is a negative point. But if one is not going to learn Hebrew correctly, one would not have any reason to own a book that is only for true Hebrew students.

I recommend this book over its 4-volume sister "The Analytical Key. . . .," because the latter volumes give away all the answers for every word; they require virtually no study of Hebrew at all. But the "Reader's" version forces the student to learn; thus eliminating lazy language study. So the "Reader's" version is for you if you are serious about learning Hebrew thoroughly without running to an answer key all the time.

With a minimum knowledge of Hebrew grammar, this book makes it possible to experience reading the Hebrew Bible (a.k.a. the Old Testatment) in its original language. It lists every word of the Hebrew Bible which appears less than 50 times in chapter and verse order with definition and page reference to the Brown, Driver & Briggs Hebrew-English Lexicon for detail explanation of that word. In an Appendix is listed all words appearing more than 50 times -- and that list is only about 1000 words. So with a basic understanding of Hebrew grammar, and the acquisition of a vocabulary of 1000 words it becomes possible to read and enjoy the Bible in Hebrew. This book is for everyone--Christian, Jew or whatever--who enjoys reading the Bible, this books opens the way to a glorious experience.

If you truly want to understand reality, read this book. It rationally explains ALL facets of our existense. If you're familiar with the movie " THE MATRIX ", Douglas Vogt is the real-life Morpheus. Can you handle the "TRUTH" he has to offer, Neo ? I first read it 20+ years ago, and have yet to find a single flaw in it's logic. It is said that when we die, a great being of Light asks us two questions: Have we gained knowledge and have we learned to love others ? The knowledge in this book has to be the "TRUTH" we're all here to learn, eventually.

The Most Important book on the face of the Earth!

A beautiful and important book that straddles with much success the two worlds of health care and soul. It is a rich potpourri of paradigm shifts - from mechanistic to holistic medicine; comtemporary management thought - the organization as organism and connectedness; new philosophical and spiritual directions - integration of yin and yang, masculine and feminine, rational and emotive; spiritual enrichment of the workplace - reclaiming soul; and recapturing community in organizationl thinking. To be read profitably by anyone, in any professional and managerial career, interested in the world of work and "staying alive." The choice of quotations and occasional poetry weave together in sure grace the many rich strands of this significant how-to offering.

Through the use of story, anecdote, and interviews the authors help understand what is meant by soul and provide guidelines on how to bring soul back into medicine. I loved the blend of presonal and professional in the writing. I feel challenged to be more aware and mindful that all my professional interactions are opportunities for soulful connections in addition to whatever else is needed. The authors have given us a much needed book.

This book is a must-have for anyone interested in fruit jars!

There are books out there that cover the spanish revival style, but, most tend to focus on the larger than life homes of people who can afford magnificent, large estates. Finally, a book that not only showcases the large estates out there, but, more importantly for me, the "smaller" more realistically sized homes that I could see myself living in. If you love this style of architecture as I do, buy this book, you will not be disappointed!

It also contains many detail shots of lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures and other unique parts that make up the whole of this style. The book is valuable to the architect, restorationist, home owner and anyone interested in architecture in general.
